Student Organizations

  • Recreation Center
    The mission of the Department of Recreation Services is to provide opportunities for physical and social interaction that satisfy varying degrees of interest in the university community and ultimately support academic productivity. The Student Recreation Center is open seven days a week for approximately 16 hours per day with most of the areas available for open recreation much of the time.

Municipal Organizations

Bike

  • Bikestation
    Bikestation is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve the quality of life in urban communities through the operation and development of bike-transit centers and related infrastructure. Modeled after European and Japanese examples, Bikestation Long Beach was the first facility of its kind to open in the U.S. in March of 1996. Bikestation Palo Alto and Bikestation Berkeley opened in 1999; Bikestation Seattle opened in May 2003.
  • University of New Hampshire: Community Bike Programs
    The Yellow bike co-operative was started in April of 2000, to provide a transportation alternative around campus and downtown Durham. One of the primary goals of the program is to reduce the use of cars as a means of moving around campus.
  • University of Montana: Cruiser Co-op
    Students can check out a Unisex yellow cruiser bike - with light, basket, lock, and helmet - for up to two days for FREE.
  • Boulder Bicycle Commuters
    Advocating safe and convenient facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
  • Bicycle Colorado
    Bicycle Colorado's mission is to encourage and promote bicycling, increase safety, improve conditions, and provide a voice for cyclists in Colorado.
  • Boulder Off-Road Alliance
    The Boulder Off-Road Alliance exists to serve as a positive voice for Mountain Biking by making the trails in Boulder County a better place for all users.

    One of the most complete university transportation programs in the United States.
  • Transit Alliance
    Transit Alliance is a non-profit coalition of 41 local governments, business associations and citizen groups promoting expanded rail and bus transit in the Denver Metro region.

    APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation, and information sharing to strengthen and expand public transportation.
  • Colorado Association of Transit Agencies
    Dedicated to representing, serving and promoting transit as part of Colorado's comprehensive transportation system.
  • Special Transit
    Special Transit is a private nonprofit organization located in Boulder, Colorado. We provide a variety of transportation options that improve the quality of life for the people in the many communities we serve.

    This is a free service that facilitates carpooling to any ski resort, on any day, and from any ZIP code.
  • Denver Metro Clean Cities Coalition
    Clean Cities is a national organization under the direction of the U.S. Department of Energy with the purpose of promoting the use of alternative fueled vehicles to decrease U.S. dependence on foreign oil and reduce air pollution.
  • Stanford University Parking Incentives

  • Railvolution
    A non-profit with a mission "to provide a forum that engages the public to build collaboratively a diverse coalition dedicated to building livable communities with transit, through education, advocacy and increasing overall federal, state and local funds available for transit."

Walk

  • Feet First
    An earth-friendly education program, "Feet First is an innovative grassroots program that explores the link between active transportation, healthy bodies, responsible environmentalism and strong communities. The program teaches children and their parents about alternatives to single-occupancy vehicles and the myriad benefits of reducing car use. Feet First, was piloted in April 2000 in three schools in the Denver area. Since then, the program has reached over 1200 students in the metro-area."
  • Puget Sound Pedestrian Advocacy
    Their mission is to "promote the rights and interests of pedestrians and to encourage people to enjoy the pleasures of walking."
  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center
    "The PBIC is a clearinghouse for information about health and safety, engineering, advocacy, education, enforcement and access and mobility. The PBIC serves anyone interested in pedestrian and bicycle issues, including planners, engineers, private citizens, advocates, educators, police enforcement and the health community."

General/Planning

  • The Surface Transportation Policy Project
    the nation's leading sustainable transportation advocacy group. "The Surface Transportation Policy Project is a diverse, nationwide coalition working to ensure safer communities and smarter transportation choices that enhance the economy, improve public health, promote social equity, and protect the environment. STPP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded by individual donations and a range of national and regional foundations."
  • TDM Programs: Profiles of Selected Universities
    The typical commercial commuter model described in the literature did not address the university's unique mix of customer populations, safety considerations, irregular work schedules and continual movement of people throughout the day. This report attempts to identify the full range of activities that campuses across the country have employed to deal with these issues.
  • Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT)
    The Association for Commuter Transportation is North America's most respected association for professionals who specialize in commuter options and solutions as well as organizations, business and individuals interested in creating a more workable transportation system.
  • Project for Public Spaces: Transportation & Livable Communities
    PPS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining public places that build communities. We provide technical assistance, education, and research through programs in parks, plazas and central squares; buildings and civic architecture; transportation; and public markets. Since our founding in 1975, we have worked in over 1,000 communities in the United States and around the world, helping people to grow their public spaces into vital community places.
  • Victoria Transport Policy Institute
    The Victoria Transport Policy Institute is an independent research organization dedicated to developing innovative and practical solutions to transportation problems. We provide a variety of resources available free at this website to help improve transportation planning and policy analysis. We are funded primarily through consulting and project grants.
  • University of California Transportation Center: ACCESS Report
    Published twice yearly, ACCESS is the official magazine of the University of California Transportation Center. Selected research projects funded by the Center, and those research findings we judge likely to interest a diverse audience of transportation professionals and public officials, are summarized in non-technical language. ACCESS is distributed free to over 15,000 readers across the country.
  • Thoreau Institute
    Inspired both by Henry David Thoreau's love of the natural world and his dislike of big government, the Thoreau Institute seeks ways to protect the environment without regulation, bureaucracy, or central control. The Institute was founded in 1975 under the name of Cascade Holistic Economic Consultants to help environmentalists and others understand and influence public land management.
  • University of Montana: Office of Transportation
    designed to increase transportation options and awareness to the University of Montana campus community.
  • University of British Columbia TREK
    "UBC's Transportation Planning Department, is dedicated to promoting a more sustainable environment for our community, our children, and ourselves. We're here to help you find convenient, cost-effective ways to get to and from UBC without resorting to using a single-occupant vehicle."
  • Community Transportation Association
    Bringing together community members to identify mobility challenges and design transit solutions since 1989
  • Regional Air Quality Council
    The Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) was established in 1989 to serve as the lead air quality planning agency for the Denver metropolitan area.
