
Talloires
Declaration
In 1997 the chancellor signed the Talloires Declaration. This is
a policy statement that many university presidents and chancellors
have signed committing their campuses to leadership in addressing
global environmental challenges in the arenas of operations, education,
and research.
Campus
Master Plan
The University of Colorado Board of Regents adopted a Boulder Campus
Master Plan for the years 2000-2008. The Environmental
Management section of the plan sets forth general environmental
policies for the campus, and the Transportation
section sets forth general transportation policies for the campus.
Campus
Design Standards
The campus design standards govern contractors and university employees
engaged in building projects at the Boulder Campus. These standards
impact energy use and many other environmental issues. They also
contain a section on recycling
and waste minimization requirements. The wood
standards also prohibit the use of tropical timber.
Endorsements of the Blueprint
for a Green Campus
In spring of 2002 the University of Colorado Student Union and
the Boulder Faculty Assembly both passed resolutions endorsing the
Blueprint For a Green Campus
Campus Environmental Council

In spring of 2002 the UCSU environmental Board adopted a resolution
calling on the university to create a campus environmental council
as an advisory board to the chancellor.
Environmental
Policies at Other Campuses
Many other institutions of higher education have adopted environmental
policies. The International Institute of Sustainable Development
maintains a database with many of these policies.

Energy Policy

In 2002 the Vice Chancellor for Administration adopted a campus
policy to reduce energy use per square foot of campus building,
with a goal of stabilizing or reducing total energy consumption
and emissions. Facilities Management also released guidelines for
computer selection and use.

UCSU Energy Resolution

In March 2001 the University of Colorado Student Union passed a
resolution calling for a stronger campus commitment to energy efficiency
and renewable energy.
UCSU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Resolution - coming soon
In December of 2001 UCSU adopted a resolution encouraging the
university to adopt the Kyoto Protocol emissions goals.
UCSU Recycled Paper
Policy

In spring of 2002 the University of Colorado Student Union adopted
a policy requiring all UCSU departments to use 100% post consumer
content recycled paper for standard printing and copying jobs.

Recycling Capital Expansion Plan

In spring of 2000 UCSU adopted a bill endorsing a 4-year capital
investment plan to expand recycling efforts at CU, contingent on
annual appropriation. As of summer 2002, the first three years of
funding have been allocated. "List

on the projects originally proposed under the plan.

In Spring of 2002 the UCSU Legislative Council passed a resolution
calling on the campus to invest in improved bicycle facilities.
Integrated Pest Management Policy

In spring of 2002 the campus adopted an Integrated Pest management
policy, designed to minimize pesticide use on campus while responsibly
managing pest problems. This policy is managed by the environmental
services division of Facilities Management. For comparison,

policies addressing issues of chemical, radiation, and biological
safety.
