Conservation Week

Conservation WEEK April 4-8!

Celebrate Conservation Week…. WHEN NOT IN USE, TURN OFF THE JUICE!

CU spent $14.9 MILLION on electricity last school year and $1.8 million more on potable water.  Every dollar spent on these resources is a dollar not spent on our education.  Plus, using resources has an impact on our skies, streams, lakes and all the critters that need them.  To generate $14.9 million worth of energy, a power plant put over 8,000 TONS of CO2 (a greenhouse gas) and other pollutants (like nitrogen and sulfur oxides that cause acid rain and smog) into the air we breath--that's like driving your car around the world more than 23,000 times!!

There is a solution that is good for the environment—and good for the economy, too.  It's called conservation.  It means that every one of us is careful about our resource use.  And the CU Environmental Center wants to know just how big of an impact we can have through our everyday decisions—which is why we’re celebrating Conservation Week. We want to see how large of a reduction can be recorded on campus electricity and water meters.

Join the CONSERVATION CHALLENGE : Reduce your use by 10%! It’s not hard to do!

Fight excessive consumption with these easy actions: (Conservation Impact %)* Enable sleep mode on your computer.  And your roommate's. (2%) Report leaks or other waste to energyconservationhotline@fm.colorado.edu (1%) Turn off the water while you shave or brush your teeth. (<1%) Turn off lights and other appliances that aren’t being used (5%) Replace your lightbulbs with Compact Fluorescents (2%)

*%’s are estimates

The POWER to CHANGE is in YOUR HANDS!
